Givenchy Antigona Bag Review

I’m excited to begin this Handbag Review series and starting it off with one of the bags I get the most questions about, my Givenchy Antigona glazed leather bag in the medium size. If I’m being honest, I have a love-hate relationship with this bag. I absolutely LOVE the look of this bag. I lusted for it for quite some time before taking the purchase plunge. Simply seeing it sit on my counter or desk brings me joy. There is something so unique and understated about its design and it is actually quite functional too.

However, it is by far the heaviest bag I own and this makes me hesitant to grab for it. This is compounded by the fact that it can fit an endless amount of stuff, so I end up carrying it on days I have a lot to haul. But even empty, this bag is heavy. It is just one large space, with no divisions, other than a zip pocket, and two additional small pockets on the lining, which can make it a little hard to find items.

I usually carry it by the top handle, unless it’s very full and heavy, and I then utilize the shoulder strap for comfort. I have noticed the shape of the bag distorts a bit at the top corners when I do this, so this is something to be aware of if you prefer to wear on your shoulder. Weight aside, it is very comfortable to wear. It is ergonomic and the straps and handles are substantial.

I also love the versatility of how it looks with professional and more casual looks. And I especially enjoy carrying it in fall and winter, due in part to its size and color. But also due to its “heavy” design, it doesn’t pair naturally with a summer dress and I love it most with more layered outfits.

I have had this bag now for almost three years and it still looks almost new. I have heard of the goatskin leather losing its shape in this size, but the glazed has barely begun to show any signs of wear. I had worried the glazed might show scratches easily, but in my experience, it has actually been more resilient than softer leather.

I held off buying it worrying it would be trendy, but has held the test of time and is becoming a classic luxury handbag. I don’t wear it as often as I thought I would, so I have debated selling it, as I have a rule of only keeping what I actually use. But I have never been able to pull the trigger.

I hope you found this review helpful and I would love to hear your thoughts on the Antigona. This bag currently retails for US $2,450, making it quite an investment. In case it’s on your wish list, I have linked a pre-loved option.

I have recently purchased the Antigona mini in the sugar goatskin and have been using it a ton and plan to review it once I have gotten a better idea of the wear and tear.

Please let me know if you have any questions, if there are any other bags you would be interested in me reviewing or anything else you would like me to cover on my blog.

Thank you for stopping by!
